Topic 05 Example: Orientation Page (Laura Paciorek - Child Development)

Notes about this page

This example has been taken from the MiraCosta Online Class Quality Guidelines: Overview and Examples

How this meets D. Introduce yourself to students and orient them to your class

  • Page provides a welcome message under the section "Learning"
  • "Contacting the Instructor" provides a friendly picture of instructor with children (humanizes the online environment quite a bit!) and how to contact
  • Syllabus video, Navigating video, and About the Course is provided
  • Navigation is provided via "Click on "Next" to keep going through the orientation module!" at the bottom of the page

Learning

The word that sort of sums up the class, to me, is the word "Learning."  We will be learning a lot this semester about the field of early childhood education. This is a great overview course to get you thinking about how young children learn. We will be working together and supporting one another along the way. We hope that this orientation is a good start to this learning experience.

Have a great semester!

Laura

Preparing for the Spring

Here are a few things you need to know to get off to a good start in the class:

Textbook

There's no textbook to buy! We will be using a free textbook linked in the modules area of our course (or use the textbook button on the home page).

Technology: Computer, Internet, and the Canvas Student App

Because this is an online class, having regular and reliable computer and internet access is critical for your success.

I highly recommend the Canvas Student app for your mobile device (Canvas Student app for Android (Links to an external site.) Canvas Student app for iOS (Links to an external site.) ). Students have told me that they like the app and it has helped them out. I use it as a student and I think it is great for things like discussion board posting in a pinch.
