Math 126 Syllabus Attendance and Time Management

Attendance

Your whole-hearted participation in this online course is vital to your success.  You contribute to a diverse and enriched learning and teaching experience for your classmates and for me.

First Week

I want you to have a great start, so please plan to log into Canvas on or before the first day of class to complete the first week assignments.  The first week is a chance to get acquainted with the style of this class by completing all your initial assignments on time. By the end of the first week, I may drop students with limited or no participation to give wait-listed students a chance to add this class.

After the First Week

If you have any difficulties completing the weekly assignments, please message as soon as possible. I feel concerned if you are inactive for longer than a week or miss a test.  If I don't hear from you first, then I will reach out to you. Before making any decisions about dropping an inactive student, I will contact them to discuss their specific circumstances. If you are thinking about withdrawing from this course, please contact me so we can strategize about possible next steps.  I suggest you also speak with an academic counselor to discuss how dropping might impact your financial aid or your academic status with the college.

Time Management and Late Assignments

Weekly Commitments

In this 4-unit class, please plan to spend approximately 12 hours (4*3=12) per week learning, practicing, reviewing, and doing other activities for this class.  We can learn math more effectively in short intervals of time, so I recommend you spread out your work throughout the week by submitting assignments at least 4 times per week.  I encourage you to work ahead on weekends or any days off,  but ask for your patience if an assignment is not ready. For reference, here is the calendar of Tentative Due Dates for Math 126 Links to an external site..

Late Assignments

Our course is 16+1 weeks long and due dates are thoughtfully distributed throughout the term to spread out the work. You should plan on submitting everything by the due date because it has many benefits for you! It helps you with time management, gives you the full opportunity to interact with the class in Discussions, and allows time for me to provide feedback that you can use to improve. That being said, life happens and if something comes up, I ask that you keep a line of honest communication with me.  Please send me a message and let me know what is going on.  If it is within a reasonable time period, we'll work out a partial or full-credit opportunity depending on the circumstances.
