Topics for Unit 1

Welcome to the first unit of Human Anatomy!

You are about to embark on a journey of exploration that focuses on the human body. In this unit, we will begin by discussing the basic principles and terminology used in studying anatomy. Language is everything in anatomy, and you'll want to learn the language of anatomy quickly as it will be used throughout the semester. We will then begin learning the basic tissues of the human body, focusing on epithelia and connective tissues. We'll also pick up a little bit of embryology (human development) along the way, but not too much. We'll then put our tissues together to construct our first organ system - the integumentary system.

Each unit I will provide you with a lecture and reading guide. This guide includes learning objectives, reading assignments, and lecture review questions and is focused on the textbook and my lecture materials.

Please note - I ONLY TEST ON MATERIAL THAT I ACTUALLY COVER IN MY LECTURES.

The lecture guides were written to help guide you in focusing on what is important from my lectures and the textbook. It is expected that you will use this guide, together with your lecture notes and other materials, as the foundation of your studying.

Use correct terminology to discuss the components and functions of blood, as well as the formation and anatomy of blood cells.
Identify and explain the structure and functions of each body system.
