1.C1 Achieving Comparable Outcomes Overview

Purpose - WHY is this important?

Learning outcomes form the nucleus of any course. Morrison, Ross & Kemp (2001) tell us that outcomes serve three functions:

  • They tell the students what is expected of them.
  • They guide you, the instructor, when you design and develop instructional activities.
  • They provide you, the instructor, with a framework for evaluating student performance.

Outcomes - WHAT will we do?

Participants will be able to do the following:

  • Write course-level and/or module-level learning outcomes that support student achievement at an appropriate level of thinking, working or feeling;
  • Revise learning outcomes to incorporate universal design and learning equity principles;
  • Map assessment strategies, activities, and learning materials to your learning outcomes; and
  • Create a course structure in Canvas that makes it clear how they will achieve outcomes.

Instructions - HOW will we do it?

You will complete this two-hour session in four parts in which you will first join or review a mini-lecture, and then complete a related activity:

These four parts are meant to be done in order. If you are just getting started, click the Next button below. If you are returning to continue your work, click any link above.
